Below is the video box break of 2021-22 Skybox Metal Universe hockey that allowed me to pull an amazing surprise! Try not to laugh to hard at my enormous hands and screeching voice.....LOL!
This is a blog about the annoyances of life and the little things that make us go, "STOP IT". Sports cards are one of my plentiful hobby addictions and it will also be one of the many items that are discussed on this blog. Feel free to leave your opinion and thoughts.

The "Universe" has spoken to me........well.....it kind of gave me a gift actually......No really....It gave me a gift....LOOK!
So things been a little crazy lately to say the least in my end of the world especially with working 6 and/or 7 days a week which is very time consuming so I'm very thankful that I am able to receive vacation days from my employer because I took a personal holiday yesterday to use for an appointment and for a mental health day for myself. I needed to take a break and relax my mind by opening up some hockey cards..... 3 boxes of 2021-22 Skybox metal universe, 2 boxes of 2020-21 Upper Deck Clear cut hockey, and 1 box of 2022-23 Upper Deck Artifacts to be specific.
The first box that I opened was the Artifacts box. It's been a few years since I opened a box of Artifacts and since the price was decent I figured why not.
I was surprised that I did not pull any other rookie cards other than the Jack Quinn clear cut rookie card. Some of the boxes I've seen opened had at least one or two other rookie cards. However my box only had Jack in it. I did receive my 4 serially numbered cards but they were all of base cards. The autograph was a nice surprise considering Quinn's autograph is listed as a "B" group auto 1:994. Overall I was pleased with what the box provided.
Moving on to the 3 boxes of skybox metal universe.............
The 2020-21 edition of Skybox metal universe provided one autograph per box where as the 2021-22 edition does not guarantee one auto per box.
Per cardboard connections: "Although the 2020-21 product specifically mentions one autograph per Hobby box, the '21-22 box hit can be an autograph, PMG, Jambalaya, or "other coveted cards."
so basically this is what the odds are for hitting an auto even from these 2021-22 boxes:
Base Silver Autographs Set Checklist
1 Connor McDavid - Oilers - A 1:6,959
2 Jonathan Marchessault - Golden Knights - E 1:143
3 Miro Heiskanen - Stars - E 1:143
4 John Gibson - Ducks - D 1:514
5 Mitch Marner - Maple Leafs - B 1:3,085
etc.etc. Your Matthews, Crosby, John Tavares, and other stars like that are all part of group A. You have a chance of hitting one of their autos but the odds are so far up there that you would have better odds of fighting a rabid wolverine naked inside of a telephone booth with aliens cheering you on and Joe Rogan calling the play by play action.
So I opened the first box and nothing earth shattering came out of the box but I am a fan of these cards and I really enjoy anything that shows images of the universe on it (real or artist drawn). The quality control with these cards spoke volumes with decent cuts and no damaged cards at all through the first box. I felt that Upper Deck did deliver on a good box of cards.
I moved onto the second box of Skybox metal universe and that's when while moving onto the last stack of packs (the middle stack) the thing I call "last stack magic" occurred and the universe spoke to me in the next to last pack:
Skybox Metal Box (Universe actually speaking through the box): How ya doing today Tim?
Big Kahuna: Just having some fun ripping some packs and trying to make a set. Why....what's up?
SMB: I feel like blessing you today with something. Allow me to ask you a question my child....Have you found McJesus?
BK: Um.....do you mean Jesus?
SMB: I'm referring to Connor McJesus.
BK: Why yes...I have some his regular cards and I just pulled a Connor Mcdavid planet metal insert in the previous pack.
SMB: That's great my child......however I'd like to bless you with a special card today. This special card is one that can be hard to find and will make you feel excited and overcome with Joy.
BK: Oh.....so you're blessing me with a Connor McDavid serially numbered card. That's cool!
SMB: No my child......while that would be "cool" I really want to bless you with something wonderful.
BK: Well then......I look forward to whatever you may want to share with me.
SMB: Allow me to bless you with this
SMB: I present to you and bless you with his HOLY CHICKEN SCRATCH
All I could think of in the moment was Han Solo saying, "Never tell me the odds."
In my 30+ years of collecting Hockey cards I have never pulled such a star quality autograph that made me go : OMG OMG OMG so many times (the video of it will be posted on the Youtube channel soon). The funny thing is I need the 2020-21 edition of this card for the set I'm building.......and with my luck.....I pulled the 2021-22 edition of this card....LOL. Even funnier, I was just talking with a fellow collector last week about building the 2020-21 skybox metal universe entire set and I said to him, "watch with my luck I'll pull the card from the 2021/22 set and it won't have an auto on it. I may not even try to build the 2021-22 set at all." I guess spoke it into existence and the Universe said, "here ya go buddy.....you willed it into existence and this one has his autograph on it."
I'm still in shock over pulling this card and while it may not seem like much to some people, it's truly an awesome feeling to me and it's one of the many fun things about this hobby. It was something that completely caught me by surprise and totally off guard when I was opening the packs. Ok universe......ok........thank you for making a rough couple of weeks being forgotten about entirely for a few hours.

Chris Tierney collection 1.0
THE FIRST SLAP SHOT IS:
2014-15 Upper Deck SP Game Used Chris Tierney Inked Rookie Sweaters patch piece #21/49. This is a simple patch piece and I'm glad that Upper Deck didn't just use a plain swatch piece in the same way that Topps does for their limited numbers sometimes.
THE SECOND SLAP SHOT IS:
2014-15 UD The Cup Rookie Masterpiece rookie auto printing plate #1/1. My first ever THE CUP 1/1.
THE THIRD SLAP SHOT IS:
2014-15 UD Exquisite Collection Rookie auto patch #12/50. This has a very solid patch piece with 3 good colors and a little thread fraying. The patch piece itself looks like it may be from the armband on the sleeve. This is also my first Exquisite hockey rookie auto.
THE FOURTH SLAP SHOT IS:
2014-15 UD SP Authentic Future Watch rookie auto patch #6/100. Again, UD used a nice 4 color patch piece for this limited series run.
more to come.................

What? WHO? WhY? WTF? Oh....ok.
There is one thing that really bothers me a liitle and that is UPPER DECK. A few weeks ago I took part in a 2010 UD Sweet Spot box break over at First and Goal and I was rather surprised at what I had pulled (actually what Dave pulled for me):
I know UD was (in trouble with the NFL: Read it here) making this a college themed set and by most standards I think they did an okay job. However the one thing I was not impressed by was the fact that the LeSean McCoy jersey swatch is green in color. That's funny considering Pitt's colors are blue and gold. So I posted a message on UD's facebook page asking as to why the color difference and I promptly received a reply of :
On the back of the jersey card it states that this jersey was from a rookie photo shoot.

Hmmmm......on the front of the hobby box it states: 2010 NCAA football
???I think it would be nice to actually use the college jersey swatch pieces in a product that is advertised as NCAA FOOTBALL and not use an NFL jersey swatch in a supposed NCAA product. Even my 9 yr old son looked at me confused and asked, "if it's a college card then why do they have a pro jersey on the card Dad?" Is it me or am I missing something?

Oh where to begin......where to begin
Of course if I turn into him then I won't have to work anymore.....yeah!
It's been a little crazy lately though in the sports world as well. We have 17 yr olds getting tasered on the ball fields. We have an NFL Hall of Famer (Lawrence Taylor) being accused of rape. We have JaMarcus Russell officially rebirthed as RYAN LEAF and is now officially the biggest draft bust of all time. We've had a famous ball park announcer finally make it home (Ernie Harwell January 25, 1918 – May 4, 2010) to call the Big Game. Milton Bradley has asked his team for help with some personal issues (SHOCKING). HOF Phillies Pitcher Robin Roberts passed away today. THE PITTSBURGH PIRATES SWEPT THE CUBS IN A 3 GAME SERIES------THIS IS REALLY CRAZY!! Alex Gordan has departed the majors. Ben Roethlisberger plans to sue his concussions for his off-field behavioral problems. PACMAN JONES is coming to the BENGALS! Vince Carter is still making noise in Orlando. TOPPS is returning to Football. UPPER DECK is making a pretty bold statement with the NCAA college exclusive license because Press Pass and Sage will just end up having pictures of guys heads on their cards. And finally.... those pesky Pittsburgh Penguins are still in the NHL playoffs.
So if ya want crazy.....welcome to my world....here's a peak inside what I like to do in my spare time. I will never be good as Charlie Benante (MY IDOL) or Mike Portnoy but these are some wild and crazy drummers:

You really want my vote eh???
I've heard through the grapevine that Upper Deck is running a contest where you can vote for the best sports blog/box breakers/best community on their website. It has been interesting the last few days to watch this catastrophe unfold and I have stood back silently and watched the emails and comments come in asking me to "vote" for their blog/whatever and I have watched comments being spewed out towards people like it was a presidential election year. I've also seen some backstabbing made to others that were just plain rude. Promises being made of sharing of whatever is given to them if they win and some promising to even give out money if they win. Well it's time for "Enough Already" to contribute my two cents.
When Upper Deck posted the available choices on the poll it would appear that some of the blogs that are listed in the voting section are justified to be on the list but then again there are some blogs that are not listed on the poll and that means some of the blogs got the dreaded "short end of the stick". In my honest opinion we are all winners when it comes to blogging. Some of us have articles that literally quench our deepest hobby thirsts while some blogs give us more of a comedic approach to the hobby. Other blogs incorporate trading amongst ourselves and for some blogs it allows them to show to the community their personal collection and a chance to talk about their favorite players. Heck some of us even incorporate our life into our hobby blogs and thus making us feel like a part of their family in a small way. The blogs allow us to be creative whether it be creating our own custom made cards or by showing us just how many idiots are on Craigslist and Ebay. The possibilities are endless and there is no limit as to just how far some people will go with their blogging concepts. There is a person that created blog about a fellow blogger and blabs about how he's "Upper Deck's Tool" and how he's just plain rude with his remarks and he's a fat and lazy hobby ego maniac slob. What a shallow life this man/woman/transgendered person must lead since his goal is to blog about another blogger and his actions. Needless to say it's still a form of creativity and it's a freedom of choice. Say those words proudly, "freedom of choice".
How Upper Deck came up with such a short list is beyond me. Did they label mice and have a race to determine who would be listed? Perhaps they drew names from a hat? I know there are blogs out there worthy of recognition beyond the list that was created. There needs to be a lot more creative thought process for this to happen properly. Upper Deck should have never said a word about giving away products for the winners. They created such a jolt grabbing frenzy that it is compared to the feeling you get from whizzing on the electric fence type of feeling. Would everyone blab out for so much attention if Upper Deck wasn't giving away anything? All Upper Deck did was unleash the creative ugliness thoughts perpetrated by fellow hobbyists. I suppose if you wanted to have an awards program for the best blog/box buster/best community then by all means do so. Just remember that it will be political and it will be fraudulent and somebody is gonna get screwed over.....kind of like the Oscars.
On a closing note I would just like to ask that you would please....for the love of God please....do not send me emails and post comments telling me about how great my blog is and then start spewing your sales pitch blasphemy on why I should vote for you. You are going to receive the following by doing so:
1. A copy of Richard Simmons "sweating to the oldies"
2. A letter from the Dept of Homeland Security
3. Some freshly squeezed gifts courteously of my two dogs Ginger and Bo
4. 1,000 copies of Ki-Jana Carter and Napoleon Kaufman autographed cards
5. BaBa Booey will take you out to the ball game and you will polish his teeth!
6. 200 legs from ladybugs
7. A gift card good for one Roundhouse Kick from Chuck Norris
Thank you for your time my fellow hobbyists.

Enough Already "State of the Union Address"

Fore score and thirty days ago the last post was made on here. It was done with the warmest of intentions and done with the thought of others in mind wishing them to have a safe and happy holiday. Since that time life for me had changed a little bit. I did not have the freedom of "free time" because my work was bogging me down with long hours and was stealing any free minutes I may have had to "blog". Then my hours changed again upon the completion of my multiple tasks thus leaving me feel very unenergetic and annoyed. So the ol' hitching post here on "E.A." was left go for a while as I began the recovery process to a better mental health awareness (like that's gonna happen). While I did manage to check out some blogs, I also wanted to take a minute and comment on some articles that seem to be a never ending battle in our hobby world.
After sitting back and seeing what has unfolded in digressing hobby news and with what TOPPS and UPPER DECK have begun to unfold from their plates have left me feeling rather...numb. UPPER DECK is in court again and admitting to more wrong doing. The Upper Deck Company imported 611,000 unauthentic Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG cards and is being sued by Konami. Discovery in the lawsuit revealed that employees of the Upper Deck Company, including its Chairman, Richard McWilliam, participated in a 2008 meeting in Mr. McWilliam's office, where they discussed that the cards made without authorization by Upper Deck did not look authentic enough, and where Upper Deck's chairman then shredded samples of the counterfeit cards. Jan 26th is the court date to determine what damages should be awarded and how much it will cost. Another potential problem is UPPER DECK is not releasing photos of their 2010 cards probably because... (using Richards voice- psst hey Topps: WE HAVE GUYS IN MLB UNIFORMS-HA!).
TOPPS is now again issuing patch cards that are NOT GAME USED and have failed to listen to the hobby plebs who ask them to stop making them for the sake of humanity. What is it with TOPPS and their COA on the back of their cards? Is TOPPS telling you that the 09 Tribute Babe Ruth bat card is not really a bat card but instead a seat card that was used by some baseball fan who had some pretty lethal beer farts unleashed into the wood from his sphincter? Then TOPPS gets this bright idea to release a National Chicle Baseball set and the designs looks like someone turned it into a version of "Garbage Pail Kids play baseball". Does Topps even try to make good card designs anymore? Look at this item: Ebay Item #350302731147 . Three patches and one wood? Why not all patches?
Here are some other notable complaints:
1. Sell Sheets- false advertising
2. Redemptions- all companies are guilty!
3. Coalition
4. Customer Service
5. Quality/Quantity
6. Redemptions that are out of stock and replaced with a bat boy's jersey card when your redemption was for three autographs limited to 10. This is done simply because the redemption has been referred to as "BECKETT's BOOK VALUE" according to the fine folks at customer service.
7. Brett Favre: Will he or won't he?
8. Peterson fumbling
9. Tim Tebow....Sorry but NO ONE is that innocent.
10. Lane Kiffin
More and more fakes are showing up on EBAY like it was nickel night in the Texas whore house. For example we have morons like this (http://www.sportscardsuncensored.com/2010/01/kevin-burge-threatens-legal-action.html) who know are getting squeezed for their wrongdoings and want us to back off. Excuse me but if you're doing something wrong and we have proof that your doing something wrong don't you think your gonna get busted sooner or later? KEVIN BURGE you have been identified and you know damn well what you're doing is wrong. It is our American/Canadian right to support our brothers and sisters in the hobby to watch out for people like you who seem to mislead the public in "what you're selling". It's people like you whom I've had the pleasure of busting personally for fraudulent items on more than a few occasions in the hobby business. Since EBAY has had scammers popping up quicker than a prom dress flying off on the night of the prom, do yourself a favor and educate yourself on what is legit and what isn't legit. If you don't know then ask a fellow hobby member from such forums/blogs as:
http://sportscardinfo.wordpress.com/ ask Andrew
http://www.sportscardsuncensored.com/ ask Gellman
http://waxaholic.blogspot.com/ ask Brian
http://www.freedomcardboard.com/ ask Chris
Heck ask me as I am a bit of an expert!
Please pray that the COLTS win the Super Bowl so we don't have to here, "who's dat" for the next year. It was bad enough that Cincinnati had "Who Day" so why can't the Saints be a little more original.

Hell has officially froze over
The whole article can be found here:
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/06/sports/baseball/06cards.html?_r=2
First off IMO:
1. Topps need to improve the customer service. Fire everyone and hire new.
2. Coalition issues out the ying yang.
3. F$^#% Redemptions that take a year or longer to get filled. Then when the athlete doesn't sign they replace it with the team toilet cleaner's auto and give you his game used toilet brush relic card to keep you happy because that is beckett value in their eyes! Yeah....game used toilet brush....Look dad- I got two brissels on this card and they're multicolored!
4. Topps needs to overhall most of their photography shots.
5. Topps performance = vomit in my mouth. don't ever bring back that set.
6. Topps needs to quit screwing us on the STICKER AUTOS.
7. Topps should be burned to the ground if they release anymore "coach autograph cards". What the heck is next- The team's concession stand workers autos?
8. Topps needs to quit the manufactured letters.....PLEASE for the love of humanity make it stop!
9. Topps needs to show up at the nationals.... oh wait perhaps this is why they didn't show up.
